This folder contains MDL files and MOT files, which can be either compressed BRRES or ARC files (see Getting Started for a tutorial on decompressing these). MDL files contain the models and textures, while MOT files contain the animations.

Unique MDL Files

Tour.mdl and Menu.mdl are ARC files containing several BRRES files which are loaded on boot and kept in memory (unlike other models which are only loaded when needed). Tour.mdl stores the models for all characters in the tournament mode overworld, while Menu.mdl is used for the models of characters on the character select screen.

cXX-type MDL Files

MDL files starting cXX are character models used in sports, with the numbers XX representing the following characters:

c00 - Mario
c01 - Luigi
c02 - Peach
c03 - Daisy
c04 - Yoshi
c05 - Wario
c06 - Waluigi
c07 - Donkey Kong
c08 - Diddy Kong
c09 - Toad
c10 - Bowser
c11 - Bowser Jr.
c12 - Moogle
c13 - Cactuar
c14 - Ninja
c15 - White Mage
c16 - Slime
c17 - Black Mage
c18 - Shy Guy (only used as a goalkeeper)

(This follows the standard character numbering system, except Mii isn't c19 as they are handled differently through mXX-type MDL Files)

These files then have either H, B, or C in the name. cXXH files are used in hockey, cXXC files are used in all other sports and cXXB files are thought to be used for boss fights (currently untested).

The numbers XX following this letter are then used to identify alternate skins. 00 is the default skin, then this number increments by 1 for each skin.

Examples of complete filenames:
c04H00.mdl - Green Yoshi in hockey
c04C01.mdl - Pink Yoshi in all other sports
c04B02.mdl - Blue Yoshi in boss fight

mXX-type MDL files

NMDL files starting with mXX are used for mii character bodies (no heads). The numbers XX represent the gender:

m00 - Male
m01 - Female

The files then use the same H, B and C system as the cXX-type MDL files to show where they are used and there are no alternate costumes so the ending numbers are always 00.

Examples of complete filenames:
m00H00.mdl - Male Mii in hockey
m01C00.mdl - Female Mii in all other sports

nXX-type MDL files

MDL files starting with nXX are used for non playable "characters", with the numbers XX representing the following characters:

n00 - Behemoth
n01 - Lakitu 
n02 - Petey Piranha
n03 - Pink Ghost (from Luigi's Mansion)
n04 - Blue Ghost (from Luigi's Mansion)
n05 - Orange Ghost (from Luigi's Mansion)
n06 - Machine (from Harmony Hustle - Classic Ocean)
n07 - Another Tournament Crystal
n08 - Bahamut (Unused?)
n09 - Lava Bubble
n10 - Mario (Main Menu - Basketball Button)
n11 - Fruit Holder (from Feed Petey Minigame)

MOT Files

MOT stands for Motion. those LH-compressed brres files contain all bones animations for the characters (chr animations), they are not really documented because we can't edit them as they have all an external folder (containing character stats) that crashes the game if removing it.
